Persuaders Inc.

I am a virgin at WordPress, and i feel i am a real virgin in the virtual world, as i cannot have sex with my keyboard, mores the pity.

I read a book in the 1950s, The Hidden Persuaders by Vance Packard, it was about how advertising is engineered to create success in hooking people into buying products, psychologists were employed to add human emotions and human behaviours, including all of the human senses, to catch the buyers attention and persuade them of their need to own the product, to improve their faux perceived life style.

The basic needs of the human are nurture, food, shelter, and a compatible environment to thrive and survive. In today,s world, millions of people do not have these basic needs, and even in the rich countries, people do not have a compatible environment to thrive and survive, this has been happening since the human invented power driven machinery for manufacturing products and successfully mining fossil fuels, commonly known as the man made industrial revolution, as all revolutions are, for example the French revolution, which pales in significance to the onslaught of the industrial one, which is to blame for the current dilemma being experienced all over the world.

Technology has brought about a brave new world, which has sped up people ambitions, leading to corporate power, transcending old fashioned things like religion, business and politics, workers rights, human rights, values, morals, education and health. Like all human endeavours, all that is new, is not all bad, communication and information gathering is good, education and health have declined in Australia since Howard [Prime Minister] came to office, he is too much of an American copycat. Universities have become production lines for business degrees. Religion, politics and business have merged as one, due to Howard paying religious groups to take over government,s responsibility of employment.

Technology has modernised and made it easier to propagate propaganda by the corporates and politicians, who persuade, cajole and incessantly drown the people with their rhetoric and dishonest messages. The Howard government,s manic spending of public money on advertising has taken on an unprecedented level of government spending in Australia. The content of the advertising is no more than political spin, contrived to persuade the voters to vote for him, especially in an election year as is the case this year. Since coming to office in 1996, Howard has taken a scythe to public services, and privatised them for the corporates to prosper. Commercial advertising is tax deductible in Australia, so public money is used for the people to receive corporate propaganda and pay for it as well. Is this democratic i ask?.

The persuaders are fully employed pedalling nonsense to the consumer, who are dehumanised, in referring to them as such, politicians have jumped on the band wagon too labelling the people as consumers, it would be far more complicated for them to use “people” as this would conjure up all the emotional issues included in the human package. It is far, far better to refer to them as “consumer” so they can be used, in the interest of the Nation or in the interest of the corporation. The consumer in Australia work more hours than ever before, there are more women employed, child nurturing and rearing take a back seat in the interests of the Nation,s economy and in the interest of the greedy corporates. Mickey mouse jobs have been employed in the interest of the employer, to use consumers as and when they want them, casual and part time work is the norm, full time jobs have declined in number. Under new industrial laws, individual contracts have been introduced to make it easier for the employer to set the conditions of work, and make it easier to hire and fire.

Part of the Howard government,s propaganda, is to see the consumer as aspiring to become richer and be more like their corporate masters, the introduction of Howard,s mums and dads, as share holders and portfolio holders, to bring them into the world of business, has confused the consumer, as life in general becomes more difficult, due to the new status seekers having to spend more on child care, because the mums and dads are forced to both work, to pay for the child care. Consumers have become like rats on a fly wheel unable to get off the damn thing. Longer hours, strangers taking care of the kids, fast food consumed of course, no time for cooking, traffic grid lock, lack of decent public transport, all add up to stressed and tired consumers, who have to keep moving forward to pay off their large mortgages.

In the comfort of their homes, the stressed and tired consumer is lulled into feeling relaxed and comfortable in front of the telly, as they sit back to receive jingoistic messages, with no intelligent content at all, from the persuaders ever seeking to push their corporate employers products, and also push the government,s political products.

Howard  has captured the corporate media,[his rich mates] and  the public broadcaster,  to which, he has gagged the staff, by denying them the right to freedom of speech, they are forbidden to make a personal comment, they are to adhere to using “Howard’s  balance”,  giving both sides of the political agenda whatever the argument, whether it be true or false, i  believe that one can balance lies, but not balance  truth.  Howard is using commercial advertising agencies  on a daily  and nightly  basis  each and every day,  he  is  using the Australian  Coat of Arms, as if it is exclusively  his own icon or political signature,  to misrepresent and misuse it for his dishonest political agenda. The Australian Liberal party should be paying  for it,s own propaganda.

Howard not only shows disrespect for our Coat of Arms, he also exhibits regularly, disrespect for the Australian people, by not referring to them as “people”,  he always  makes statements like “It is in the interest of the Nation” or “It is in the interest of the Australian economy” when he is making a perceived, [in his own brain] announcement, that may be unpopular with the electorate at large.  Howard also illustrates disrespect and ignorance and  going against International Laws and  UN Charters to which Australia is a signatory, when he publicly declares that asylum seekers are “illegals”,  and when he publicly denigrates Muslim citizens of Australia, and when he treats our First Australians as inferior by denying them essential services such as health and education, and when he publicly denounces political leaders in our neighbouring countries, and when he imprisons people and their children  in his detention centres, who have not broken any local or international  law, and when he decides to make it harder for people to gain Australian citizenship, by making English  tests more difficult, and when he announced Australia,s membership of the coalition of the willing, and lied to the Australian people using his  propaganda and mantras [“WMD”, “War on Terror”] incessantly in the media to justify the illegal invasion of Iraq.

Howard is attempting to erase our early and recent history, with his new and sanitized version, by persuasion and social engineering to erase our collective memory preceding 1996, when he came to office. It is ironic that under his leadership, along with his supporters,  we are repeating injustices done to people preceding 1996. Indigenous peoples are still suffering injustice, and their shorter  lifespan does not look like it will ever get to a desired number, if the same white  attitudes continue.

Howard has recently referred to Australian values as obligatory for those seeking Australian citizenship.  Howard is lacking in moral fibre, he is not an advocate for human rights, he is a supporter of murder, and maiming of innocent people in Iraq, he appropriates and wastes  public money, he would not know truth even if he fell over it, he helps the rich, he does not help the poor, he does not care about the environment, he does not care about International laws, he does not care about people full stop. Howard is not an appropriate example of Australian values or of the decent thinking Australian people.

I invite the Bonsai Bush in Canberra to make a  comment.
